Subsonic Mind "Under Your Skin" For me, it's easy to recognize the band SUBSONIC MIND based in Arvika, Sweden. They've been seen several times on Slave to Metals demo review pages and they have a unique identity with singer Lisa Nyströms very personal voice. The sound of the band is moving between rock and industry and several demos has been produced, isn't it time for a record deal now!? I know where the problem is . It's nothing wrong with the music, it's the present climate in the music industry. Songs like "Ride" could easily find its way on to the charts with the right promotional backup. But the situation today is that record companies don't dare put their money on something that's not ordinary, and SUBSONIC MIND isn't ordinary. Another aspect is that the band is in between genres, and that makes it harder. But stick to it, one day you'll sign a deal - otherwise life is unfair. My prediction is that the debut album of SUBSONIC MIND will be release on a sub label to one of the giant companies - that's my tip. I want to see more people getting the chance to enjoy this heavy, well produced monster. Slave To Metal #17 Subsonic Mind Under Your Skin Independently produced EP, 4 tracks Somewhere in the background we see the ghost of old school metal like Megadeth together with Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails, but there are several things that separate Subsonic Mind from the rest. One thing is lead singer Lisa Nyström, who, together with guitarist Tomas Walter, started the band four years ago. She doesnt force her voice close to screaming but chooses a more close timbre in the total sound. The result is striking: You just have to listen because the sound is so different from so many others. Another thing is that they make an honest try to groove life into their otherwise quite heavy music. Someone once said: You can play the heaviest music possible, but it wont matter if there isnt any groove, bounce or melody supporting it. Tony Balogh, Sweden Rock Magazine #27, May 2005. Translation from Swedish by Niklas Nord SUBSONIC MIND live at The Tivoli, Helsingborg 2004-09-29 Subsonic Mind A lot of running on stage This band felt really serious, they had a great feeling for the stage and a presence without comparison. They were everywhere, jumping around and simply giving a great show. A bit hard to capture on photo though =P. As I said, this band felt really serious. By that I mean that we are probably going to see a lot of them in the future. Not only had the singer a cool voice, she was really hot too! Subsonic Mind was started 2001 by the singer Lisa Nyström in Arvika. Anna Lindström, Fredrik Asterhag, Citysajten SUBSONIC MIND - Connected The duo from Arvika with Lisa Nyström (vocal) and Tomas Walter (guitar and machinery) are formerly known on the demo sites of Slave To Metal, but under the name SUBSONIC. Concurrently with that the band name have become longer, nowadays they call themselves SUBSONIC MIND, the band itself has increased today the line up includes Niklas Nord on bass and Jolene Fredricson on drums. The later is something I have wished for a long time. A drummer in flesh and blood actually adds a lot to the band, suddenly there is a live feeling in the music, which lifts Connected a lot. Lisa´s whimpering voice is intact and there is nothing to say about the song making. The new type of hard rock/metal will do nicely out on the smokey clubs and this is the demo that definitively will give them gigs. The demo is also strong enough that it should be able to get them signed but I think that their music is a bit out of the strict terms of references which the record companies seem to have nowadays. Their music is a bit in no mans land. But now, as stated before, the band is definitively ready for a record deal. It is a good thing that they on this four track demo have included an old classic from before Denial which here comes in a more living version! Check it out!!! Slave To Metal #14 SUBSONIC MIND live at Nöjesfabriken, Karlstad 2004-04-16 Subsonic Mind from Arvika has existed in different forms since 2001.During that time they have produced no less than five demos and two music videos. The latest demo is Connected which have received fine reviews. Subsonic Mind is playing a form of harder melodic rock, which is unbelievably well performed. The singer, Lisa Nyström, together with guitarist Tomas Walter makes the stage show very interesting to watch with their presence and intensity. Lisa moves freely around on stage, at the same time as she totally enters into the music. The audience, wich increased during the evening, loves it. A big crowd sings along and raves about until the band is forced to leave the stage to make room for the next act. Carl Bock, Outlife SUBSONIC MIND - Connected Veterans in the demo business Subsonic Mind from Arvika has achieved something very promising with their fifth demo "Connected". With material as strong as this and well thought-out arrangements it is only fair if a great breakthrough waits around the corner. The singer Lisa Nyström has a voice I really like, especially when the music is a bit calmer and she sings with a delicacy that is very charming. Though, I would like to see a bit more aggressive singing in the harder parts, in my opinion it would make the music more powerful and give that little extra that is so important. Anyway, there is a lot to enjoy here, the final track "Denial" would get a high position on my favourite-song-of-the-month-list and the intro of "Erase Me" is one of those parts you can listen to again and again only because it is so cool. In other words, this is a band to keep one´s eyes open for, I am quite sure that we, within a near future, will hear from them in a full length record. Gustaf Claesson, Musiklandet, March 23rd 2004 SUBSONIC MIND Connected Demo, 2003 Subsonic Mind is the same band as Subsonic from Arvika, Sweden. They have changed their name to avoid mix ups with other bands. Connected is the follow-up to the bands last demo, Narrow-Minded. They continue where they left off, with a mixture of hard rock and metal, but this time with less electronic sounds than the last. Something entireley positive is that this time the songs are better and make Connected into a better product. The first song, Bitter End, is the weakest, but it is far from a bad song. The other three, Erase Me, Down and Denial are incredibly great songs. Lisa´s special voice really suits this music perfectly. Another thing is that the band has come up with some very matching and good licks, which makes the demo homogeneous. You can trace a personality in what they do, they have found their own thing, sort of saying Another thing that I like is that the band has made the effort to print the lyrics, which I appreciate. This has to be the ticket to a record deal? Ruben, Eternal Terrror 2004-01-19 SUBSONIC - Narrow-Minded Subsonic has an interesting sound, hard and well thought-out. This is spiked with the help of Lisa Nyströms sharp tounge. The demo also includes a video wich is very professional. An unusual and amusing trick to get record companys and others interested. This band doesn´t need any changes worth mentioning to reach success, they allready have the sound and the songs. Zero Music Magazine 1 2003 SUBSONIC - Narrow-Minded Like a well lubricated asphalt-machine from Arvika Subsonic drives on in five demo-songs. And Marilyn Manson goes hardcore. Subsonic has a go like Linkin Park, Dimension and Spineshank and the capacity to bring down the pace and change tracks to more temperated and less aggressive tunes. This is everything but mainstream with its heavy neo-metal sound and Lisa Nyströms special voice, wich also should fit more electronic music. But it is the voice that makes Subsonic´s music more interesting than I first thought. Subsonic records their demos in ultrahell studio, where their music thunders in on the recording tape and out comes a ready product of heavy-as-lead-rock and industry-techno, something that reminds of Nine Inch Nails, Pig and Ministry-music combined with attitude and heavy, heavy, heavy music. In the expensive video to the song Narrow-Minded you can follow an Edward Norton-look-alike in his confused state, maybe something for Z-TV? Hellbilly winter 2002 |
SUBSONIC - Narrow-Minded Lisa Nyström and Tomas Walter are frequent visitors in this column. Together they are SUBSONIC. My impression of the new demo Narrow-Minded is that it is heavier and more modern, light industrial and without doubt more expressive metal-oriented than the last demo. Nyström once again shows that she is a talented vocalist with both will and capability to a very different way of singing. It is possible that I have mesioned it before inearlier rewievs of the band, but it can be said again: in some sequenses Lisa Nyström reminds me of PJ Harvey in her early days. However, this is an exciting band, and the three demos I have listened to shows a great musical width and development. The fact that Lisa is good looking is shown in the Quick Time-video to the title song of the demo. Scream 72 |
SUBSONIC - So Fast, So Hard, So Cool, So What It wasn´t long ago that the Arvika-duo Lisa Nyström and Tomas Walter appeared in Slave To Metal, and a new demo has already been sent to the ediotorial staff. It´s still about heavy hard rock/metal with a touch of LEFT HAND SOLUTION. I wanted more arranged material, and the new So Fast So Hard is more of pure style and has more connected songs, so I feel I got what I wanted. Worth mentioning is Nothing and So What wich is two songs with go. And I think that Lisa sounds even better on the new demo. They should easily be able to get signed with this demo. SUBSONIC - So Fast, So Hard, So Cool, So What Oh my God, how these Swedes have developed! SUBSONIC, still Lisa Nyström and Tomas Walter, have delivered a new high quality demo. As I recall it, I incorrectly rewieved their last demo as an official CD. So Fast, So Hard, So Cool, So What is their third demo, but it includes such great songs and is so professionally produced, that it should have been an official release. SUBSONIC is heavier than before and much more metal with loads of cool and energic guitar riffs, while Lisas voice feels very close in the production with her self confidence and slighthtly chilly vocals. If I had a record company this band would be signed! Scream |
SUBSONIC - Not For Sale "Not For Sale" includes five songs of what I would call experimental industrial with a clear metal reference where Lisa Nyström is doing a good and credible caracter behind the microphone. An exciting CD from a band I think is from Sweden. Scream |
SUBSONIC - Not For Sale This is the second demo from the Arvika-based duo with five songs. Tomas Walter is running the music and Lisa Nyström is using the lungs. To not make parallells with LEFT HAND SOLUTION feels redicilous, it is there i find the most similaritys. They play a form of metal/rock where Lisa both whines and vomits. Her voice has a tremendous potential, mostly because it isn´t clear as a bell ringing! It is a little out of tune and that´s what makes it fit in so well. But something that is clear as a bell ringing is the hit potential in the songs. Above all in the opening Denial and Believe wich video is included. Slave to Metal March 2002 |
